With a concert schedule planned for only two more seasons,
Frederick Swann, the internationally acclaimed organist, has
decided to perform at Royce Hall tonight at 8.
Using Royce’s historic and richly acoustic organ, Swann
will play Healy Willan’s “Introduction, Passacaglia and
Fugue” and Bach’s “Prelude and Fugue in E-flat
Major,” among other works.
Swann has worked as an organist/director at various churches and
cathedrals, served on the faculties of many musical institutions,
and held numerous local and national offices during his involvement
with the American Guild of Organists.
But after 60 years of commitment to church work, Swann decided
this summer to devote more of his time to concerts and leisure.
During his entire career as an organist, Swann has performed in
every state in the United States, in Canada, Asia and in many of
the major churches, cathedrals, and concerts halls throughout
Europe. He has also performed at notable international organ
competitions and festivals in Paris, Calgary, and Nuremberg.
During the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons, Swann is scheduled
to hold recitals in Europe and throughout North America, including
a special appearance in Brazil.
