It’s always good to play for a cause.

Local group The Luke & Chris Band will play at the UCLA
Organ Donor Awareness event held today on Westwood Plaza between
noon and 1 p.m.

The event will be held as a kick-off for the new organ donor
awareness organization, as well as a good-luck sendoff for Kelly
Perkins, who successfully received a heart transplant in 1995, and
will travel to Africa on Oct. 11 to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The event should attract at least 300 students, according to
Angela Marquez with Be Carded, the organization that is putting on
the event.

“(Luke and Chris) will attract a lot of students,”
Marquez said in a statement.

The event will feature sign-up tables and pizza donated by
Shakey’s while Luke and Chris perform for free to benefit the
cause.

Luke and Chris feel that their music brings a sort of connection
to most students.

“Personally I hope they relate the music to some
experience they’ve had in their life,” said Luke
Eddins, the band’s guitar player and back-up vocalist, last
year in an interview on a Friday morning at Coffee Bean.

“I hope they can enjoy singing along,” added lead
singer Chris Getto. “It’s great to just make someone
feel something, whether it’s good or bad.”

The Luke & Chris Band is familiar to the UCLA students
because of their regular appearances at bars and clubs in the
Westwood area.

“Our sound is pop rock,” Eddins said. “It
spans anything from, I would say, Train to Counting Crows.
There’s a million bands you can name, but as far as the sound
goes I think it’s unique because of the violin
sound.”

Luke and Chris are bringing their sound to the students of UCLA
and are saving lives while they’re at it.
