The Strokes "Is This It" RCA
The hype’s been on the streets for months and the group
has been selling out venues across the country without even a radio
single. So, have The Strokes been worth the wait?
To be modest, The Strokes may be the Viagra that the impotent
music industry needs.
Sure they may sound like the Velvet Underground circa 1964, but
it looks like the music world is ready for the raw unpolished
racket known as The Strokes.
Calling The Strokes’ sound abrasive, raw or dirty would be
an understatement. The music is less focused on purity or a clean
tone and more on just making danceable noise.
Songs like the album’s first single “Last
Nite” have an almost ska feel to them ““ but only in a
good way.
With distorted vocals, sloppy guitar and incessantly simple
pounding drums, The Strokes have given other modern musicians a
good kick in the ass.
