Student Perspective

The Daily Bruin asked UCLA students if they felt safe walking
around campus at night. Tye Elliott

Third-year, psychology and biology

“I feel very safe for the most part. … I mean, you have
people on bicycles that ride around; you have the CSOs that come
and escort you. … I’ve never used any of those services,
but it lets me know there’s something there if I need it.”
Alice Sheng

First-year, undeclared

“I don’t really walk alone, but usually I feel
pretty safe. Late at night we usually walk back together. … If I
have to end up by myself, someone offers to walk back with me, but
if (not) it’s not that bad.” Toni Salgado

Graduate student, math

“I try and make sure I walk with people. I’m very
conscious because I got assaulted, actually. It has made me more
paranoid. I walk with people all the time and make sure it’s
daylight.” Rodrigo Ramos

Third-year, Spanish and ethnomusicology

“Overall I do feel safe. … I will say that at night when
I am walking home … I don’t see any CSOs around. I
don’t see why people don’t patrol these areas … that
are not well lit.” Photos By: Jonathan Young/Daily Bruin
