Baseball hosts UC Santa Barbara
Junior Chris Cordeiro is set to start for the Bruins as the UCLA
baseball team seeks vengeance against UCSB. The Gauchos (21-25)
beat the Bruins (22-26) 7-5 on Feb. 18 in Santa Barbara.
The teams will meet in Jackie Robinson Stadium at 6 p.m.
tonight. The Bruins need to reach .500 by the end of the season in
order to make the regional playoffs. After finally winning a
Tuesday game against LMU last week, the team improved to 1-9 in
midweek games.
“We pretty much need to win out the rest of our Tuesday
games,” junior Preston Griffin said.
NCAA recommends new 3-point line
The 3-point line in men’s college basketball would be
moved back nine inches to 20 feet, six inches under a
recommendation from an NCAA rules committee Monday.
The current distance of 19-9 has been in place since 1986.
The panel also suggested expanding the 12-foot-wide college lane
by adopting the trapezoid used in international play. At its widest
point, the trapezoid lane’s width is 19 feet, 8 3/4
inches.
The changes could take effect as early as next season.
