FILM/TV: “Stealing
Time”

Various locations
Opens Oct. 3

The new independent film revolves around a group of college
buddies reviving their friendships after they’ve all been in
the working world for a bit. But here’s the catch:
They’re trying to pull off a huge bank heist. And if
that’s not interesting enough, Jennifer Garner has an
extended cameo.

“Prey for Rock and Roll”
Laemmle Sunset 5 Theatre
Open now

Who wouldn’t want to watch Gina Gershon play an aspiring
rock star in 1980s Los Angeles? OK, don’t answer that. Still,
original music by Stephen Trask (“Hedwig and the Angry
Inch”) makes this film interesting enough. Never
underestimate the power of a man who helped write a musical about
the survivor of a botched sex-change operation. Never.

“Shane”
The Egyptian Theatre
Oct. 8, 7:30 p.m.

It’s been 50 years since “Shane” was
originally released, so it must be time for an anniversary
screening. American Cinematheque is giving it the full treatment,
showing a new 35 mm print, followed by a Q&A with George
Stevens Jr., son of director George Stevens. Yee haw!

MUSIC:

Holly Golightly
Spaceland
Oct. 3

After recording a duet with the White Stripes in their latest
album “Elephant” and the release of her tenth album
“Truly She is None Other,” Holly is out on the road
again to prove girls can be just as good as guys with this whole
garage rock revival. Tickets are $12 and are available at
www.ticketweb.com.

The Shortlist Concert
The Wiltern
Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m.

Get them all in at once. Interpol, Bright Eyes, Catpower and
Black Keys have been rounded up for a night of indie indulgence.
Bob head accordingly. Call (213) 380-5005 for ticket
information.

THEATER/ARTS:

Lee Bontecou: A Retrospective
Hammer Museum
Oct. 5 through Jan. 11, 2004

Arguably the most important female artist of the 1960s, Bontecou
has been in seclusion for nearly 30 years. Many never-before-seen
works will be showcased as part of this first-time retrospective
spanning 50 years. Free for UCLA students, $5 for adults and $3 for
seniors Call (310) 443-7041 for more information.

“The Graduate”
Wilshire Theatre
Oct. 8 through Oct. 26

Based on the novel by Charles Webb, the play will star Jerry
Hall as the devilish, sexy Mrs. Robinson and Rider Strong as
Benjamin Braddock. The two have their work cut out for them, taking
on Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman’s roles in the film
version. Expect comedy of the intentional and unintentional
variety. Ticket range from $30 to $60 Visit www.broadwayla.org for
more information.

“The Broadway Play”
Stella Adler Theatre
Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 25

Darian Lane’s drama about an over-the-hill stage actor has
moved to the Stella Adler Theatre in an extended run after a
successful summer premiere. Tickets are $10, and students are 2 for
1 w/ID. Call (818) 761-0701 for details.
