Calendar: Music

Rich Robinson
The Viper Room
Jan. 22, 8:30 p.m.

Remember the Black Crowes? Not the crows who counted and sang
about old man Mr. Jones, but those guys from Georgia who were big
in the ’90s. Well, guitarist Robinson is back to prove
himself worthy of the solo artist crown. We’ll see how far
that goes. Tickets are $15. 21+. Try www.viperroom.com.

Randy Newman
Royce Hall
Jan. 23, 8 p.m.

Honored enough in the musical community for an entire throng of
artists to put on a tribute show the very next night, here’s
the chance to see the singer-songwriter who dropped out of UCLA for
a record deal with Reprise Records back in the ’60s. Since,
he has gone on to release over 20 records, score films such as
“Toy Story,” and work on musical adaptations for the
stage. Student tickets are $25. Go to www.uclalive.org for more
information.

Ying Quartet
Clark Library Facility
Jan. 25, 2 p.m.

Rumor has it that classical music makes you smarter, and what
better day to boost those brain cells than the day that comes after
Friday and Saturday night? The performance is part of the
“Chamber Music at the Clark” concert series presented
by the UCLA 17th and 18th Century studies center. Admission is
$20.
