Calendar: Film & TV

“Hidalgo”
Ackerman Grand Ballroom
Feb. 10, 8 p.m. If not for the pretty overt pro-American sentiment,
this almost looks like a David Lean movie, Omar Sharif and all.
Viggo Mortensen stars as the pseudo-historical Frank T. Hopkins,
who raced across the Arabian Desert in 1890. The movie’s fate
probably lies in Mortensen’s ability to convince audiences
he’s more than just the pretty, brooding Aragorn. And with
this free sneak preview, you can be among the first to know. Visit
www.campusevents.ucla.edu for details.

“Donnie Darko”
Landmark Nuart Theatre
Feb. 7, 12 a.m. See the film that brought Jake Gyllenhaal to the
notice of college students who didn’t get around to seeing
“October Sky.” Now he’s the indie Tobey Maguire,
and he’s got “Donnie Darko” to thank for it. See
it with the rest of the film’s followers for a special
midnight screening. Log on to www.landmarktheaters.com for more
information.

“Friends”
NBC
Feb. 5, 8 p.m. The special 45-minute episode guest stars Danny
DeVito as a male stripper. Need we say more? Log on to www.nbc.com
if you absolutely must have more information.
