Prager to speak on campus today
Dennis Prager, a well-known conservative radio talk show host,
columnist and author, will lead a forum tonight about why Judaism
is important in today’s world and how to maintain Jewish
identity.
The event is intended to divorce the religion of Judaism from
the political tensions surrounding it, especially in light of the
recent conflict in the Middle East.
Prager will speak for the first half of the forum. He will then
field questions from the audience for the second half.
Tonight’s event is the first in a series of three forums
hosted by Prager at UCLA. Each forum will concentrate on a
different aspect of Judaism.
Rona Ram, a third-year communication studies student and an
assistant to Prager, is organizing the event.
She said she didn’t approach other student groups for
sponsorship because she didn’t want the event to carry any
political overtures.
The event is intended to reinforce the Jewish community’s
sense of identity, Ram said.
“I want my community to get together and learn what it is
they’re fighting for, what’s so important for
them,” she said.
Prager is a syndicated broadcast and print journalist who has
written books on Judaism. He also lectures at the University of
Judaism, which is located in Bel-Air.
Space is limited to 450 students. Ram said about 200 people have
already indicated their intention to attend. The event is free and
open to the public.
Prager will be speaking from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Moore 100.
Subsequent forums with Prager will take place March 8 and March
15.
