The Daily Bruin editorial board asked itself an important
question Monday: How many of its members had, during their time in
school, taken sufficient advantage of UCLA’s proximity to the
ocean?
The vote was unanimous. There was not nearly enough
beach-going.
The temperature was to reach 87 degrees Monday and is predicted
to be 88 today. Spring is here. The weather is beautiful
““Â even by Southern California standards.
What’s more, Los Angeles county is famous worldwide for
its spectacular beaches. And while those UC Regent and
Hollywood-types up the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu sometimes
make a stink about the public trying to access public beaches,
there are still plenty of locations left over for the average
college student looking to enjoy a relaxing ““Â and cheap
““ day in the sun. Santa Monica, Venice, Manhattan, Hermosa,
Topanga and Dockweiler beaches are just a few of them.
The Bruin’s advice: Take a day off. Do you really need to
sit through that lecture about mean, median and mode? With midterms
nearing, the temptation is to work, work, work. But the more
you’re convinced you can’t take a break, the more you
probably need one.
