Backup wide receiver Idris Moss has been dismissed from the UCLA
football team, the athletic department announced Aug. 2. Moss
apparently committed multiple violations of department policy.
Moss, a third-year sophomore, was listed as the third split end
on the depth chart behind Junior Taylor and Joe Cowan but could
have challenged for playing time after a successful spring
season.
In 2003, he had four receptions for 92 yards, including two for
66 yards against USC. He did not see any playing time during the
2002 season.
“We certainly wish Idris well in his future,” coach
Karl Dorrell said. “He made some mistakes and has paid a
severe price. Hopefully, he will learn from this and be successful
elsewhere.”
Moss could not be reached for comment but told the
Press-Enterprise he was in good academic standing.
Federal laws regarding student privacy prohibited the athletic
department from expanding on what policies Moss violated.
“It’s somewhat of a curveball, but I respect and
accept the decision, and I know there are consequences and
repercussions of every action,” Moss told the
Press-Enterprise.
“It came at a time where it hit me kind of late. I will
try and see where I can go from here,” he added.
Moss is the third Bruin to be dismissed in the past six weeks.
Defensive lineman Junior Lemau’u and receiver Antwuan Smith
were both released for failure to comply with team policies.
The departures seem to display a tightened grip on the program
under Dorrell and the athletic department.
“This is an unfortunate circumstance for this young
man,” Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said. “But all of
our student-athletes know they are expected to follow the policies
of our department.”
