Wireless tech talk to happen at UCLA today

An event focusing on the future of wireless technology and its
effects on the entertainment industry will he held today in Covel
Commons.

The Mobile Entertainment Media Forum is organized by the
Wireless Internet for Mobile Enterprise Consortium at the UCLA
School of Engineering and Applied Science.

The participants intend to discuss how wireless technology will
change the way media content is paid for and distributed. They will
also talk about how intellectual property is protected.

One area of emphasis is the way cell phones will provide
consumers with a new medium to view movies or sports games on
portable devices.

Professor Rajit Gadh, director of WINMEC, said he hopes the
conference will help the industry realize what elements of wireless
technology should be taught at UCLA and to discover “the new
things we need to teach in universities.”

Secondly, he said the conference will help identify
“important research issues for tomorrow.”

Electricity bills will lower via wind and solar
powers

VICTORVILLE “”mdash; Wind and solar energy systems going into
operation this month will reduce electricity bills at the 360-acre
Federal Correctional Institution in the Mojave Desert by $420,000
annually.

The system is the first project to combine wind and solar power
production through an innovative financing program.
