After enduring disappointing winter and fall seasons for
men’s basketball and football (and no doubt whining about
it), students should stand up and take notice of smaller sports
that are winning big.
The men’s volleyball team secured an at-large bid for the
NCAA Final Four, won its semifinal match against Penn State on
Thursday night, and has a great opportunity to claim its
school-leading 19th national title at Pauley Pavilion this weekend
““ all with a home-court advantage.
It’s not often that an NCAA Tournament takes place on
Bruin soil.
Last year, UCLA hosted the gymnastics championship and won the
national title. This year, the Bruins are close to another victory
in Westwood as the men’s volleyball team will take on
Pepperdine in the NCAA finals Saturday night.
Yet, Pauley Pavilion was only half capacity Thursday night. More
students should show their support for the team and attend the game
Saturday evening.
