It’s not always easy to get around Los Angeles. Between
rush-hour traffic, congested freeways and exorbitant gas prices
““ not to mention having to throw down a cool Abe Lincoln or
two every time you want to park ““ sometimes it doesn’t
make a lot of sense to have a car in the City of Angels. But
believe it or not, we do have a cheap, convenient public
transportation system: It’s called the bus, and you can take
it right from UCLA to just about anywhere of interest. You’ve
got sidewalks lined with stars at the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a
scrumptious meal at Roscoe’s Chicken’ n Waffles on one
trip. You’ve got a ride on the Ferris wheel and funnel cake
at the Santa Monica Pier. Where there’s a will, there’s
a bus line.
Driving in Los Angeles is pretty much the worst thing ever. Even
if the other 9.9 million Angelenos on the road knew what they were
doing, they’d still be clogging up the 405 from here to Santa
Barbara. So save yourself a headache and some gas money and get on
the bus. Sure, you may have to fend off the occasional raving nut
job, but that’s a small price to pay considering a ride on
the Big Blue Bus only costs UCLA students with BruinCards a
quarter. There’s plenty to do in Los Angeles along the bus
lines, so we’ve picked out a few of our favorite spots. Bring
a friend and enjoy the ride. ““ David Greenwald
