Melissa and Emerson performed an acoustic set of their song “So Right” during the first half of Spring Sing on Friday. The duo competed under the Best Solo or Duet Performance category at the annual talent competition.

From George and Ira Gershwin Award-winning Julie Andrews to the Company’s iPhone skit to surprise celebrity judges such as Melissa Joan Hart to Katie Boeck’s sweepstakes-winning performance, Spring Sing 2009 featured many highlights for both returning fans and newbies alike.

The three-hour show marked not only the show’s first time in Pauley Pavilion in more than 20 years, but many new acts such as “Jerry Maguire: The Musical,” the first non-Greek group to compete for best production. Friday also signaled the debut of the new Bruin Choice award, voted on completely by students.

However, Spring Sing 2009 was still full of tradition with the show’s annual list of surprise celebrity judges and many returning performers such as now three-time consecutive winner Katie Boeck.
