Metro bus crashes into tree, leaves five with minor injuries

A Metro bus crashed into a tree early Saturday in Westwood after the bus driver fainted, sending the driver and four passengers to local hospitals to be treated for minor injuries.

The bus swerved off the street at 2:10 a.m. on Wilshire Boulevard between Westholme and Thayer avenues, and crashed into a tree, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

There were 15 passengers on the bus during the crash, and police found no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement in the accident, said Mike Lopez, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.

It is unknown if any of the injured passengers are affiliated with UCLA.

No further information was immediately available. The case is still under investigation.
