Women’s basketball’s home matchup against Texas Southern cancelled because of COVID-19 protocols

For the second day in a row, Bruin basketball has been shut down at Pauley Pavilion.

UCLA women’s basketball’s (5-3) home matchup against Texas Southern (0-6) set for Thursday evening will not be played as scheduled because of COVID-19 protocols, the team announced hours before the 7:00 p.m. tipoff. No further details were immediately disclosed. 

The decision comes one day after the men’s team also saw the cancellation of its scheduled game against Alabama State. Coach Mick Cronin was set to miss the game because of COVID-19 protocols, it was announced earlier in the day.

The Bruins had eight games postponed or canceled last season because of COVID-19 concerns, with just one of those being made up later in the year.

Following the cancellation, UCLA is scheduled to play two more nonconference matchups – against No. 24 Ohio State on Sunday and CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday – before beginning its Pac-12 schedule against USC on Dec. 28.
