Pucks soar through the air, clattering against glass as skates slice through ice. UCLA men’s club ice hockey, an offshoot of one of the earliest sports in campus history, faced off against California State University, Northridge for its final home game of the season Friday night. UCLA was leading 4-3 when the remainder of the game was postponed because a window pane was damaged during play. While Westwood’s Tropical Ice Gardens are a relic of the past, the club sport has since made Santa Clarita’s The Cube Ice and Entertainment Center its home for the last five seasons. Amid the commotion of the game, team members reflect on the former NCAA Division I program’s storied past as UCLA celebrates 100 years of ice hockey.
