UCPD is investigating an electric scooter theft that happened at Dodd Hall on Wednesday evening, according to a Friday Clery Timely Warning.
Multiple e-scooters have been stolen across campus, with recent incidents occurring near Dodd Hall and Lu Valle Commons, according to the alert. UCPD has received 23 scooter theft reports in the past 28 days, said Jeff Chobanian, the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau, in an emailed statement.
UCLA administrators announced in January that students must register all e-scooters and bikes used on campus or stored in UCLA-owned housing with UCLA Transportation. They said in the email that registration – which opened Jan. 29, and students must complete by Nov. 20 – will make it easier to identify lost or stolen devices.
“We are hopeful that the new registration process will decrease scooter-related crime,” Chobanian said in the statement.

UCPD encouraged community members in the alert to register their devices with UCLA Transportation and to lock e-bikes and scooters in well-lit, busy areas. People can prevent thefts by properly securing their device to an approved parking facility, like a bicycle rack, as well as locking the frame and wheels by using a U-Lock and a six-foot cable or chain, UCPD said in the alert.
UCPD issues Clery Timely Warnings, which federal law requires, when crimes occurring near or on campus pose a serious or continuing threat to the campus community.
UCPD was still investigating this incident as of 2:54 p.m. Friday, according to the alert. People with information can contact UCPD at 310-825-1491.
