UCLA baseball (51-7, 28-2 Big Ten) became the first No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament to lose its regional opener when Saint Mary’s (34-25, 15-12 WCC) came out victorious 3-2 in Friday’s Los Angeles Regional opener.

UCLA will play Virginia Tech (30-25, 15-15 ACC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in an elimination game at Jackie Robinson Stadium. If the Bruins wish to advance to super regionals, they will need to win four straight games – including a doubleheader Sunday.

Senior right-hander Michael Barnett will toe the mound against the Hokies, coach John Savage said.
