UCLA suspended two of its Greek life chapters and placed one chapter on probation during the 2025-26 academic year, according to the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life community performance report.
UCLA suspended its chapters of Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Alpha Zeta for violating policies related to hazing and safety, according to a September email from the OFSL. Lambda Chi Alpha, a fraternity that was placed on probation during the 2024-25 academic year, is suspended through 2028, and multicultural sorority Sigma Alpha Zeta is suspended through 2027.

The Office of Student Conduct also placed Nu Alpha Kappa, a Latino fraternity, on probation through 2030 and placed Theta Kappa Phi and Theta Chi on interim suspension, according to the report. The timeframes for the interim suspensions were not disclosed in the document.
Suspended student groups are not recognized by the university during their suspension and cannot participate in university activities, said Benito Nieves, the interim director and associate dean of students in the Office of Student Conduct, in an emailed statement.
Probation is a defined period of time for a student group to rehabilitate its standing and may include the suspension of certain privileges and required participation in educational activities, Nieves said in the statement.
Lambda Chi Alpha, Sigma Alpha Zeta, Theta Kappa Phi and Nu Alpha Kappa did not respond to requests for comment on their statuses. Theta Chi declined to comment on the interim suspension.
The report did not provide information on why the university suspended the Greek life chapters, placed them on probation or placed them on interim suspension. Lindsey Goldstein, the director for the OFSL, did not answer questions about the specific reasoning behind the student groups’ statuses.
UCLA places student groups on interim suspension while it evaluates a case, and the status may include restrictions on hosting programming, accessing university resources and reserving spaces on campus, Nieves said. The Office of Student Conduct can impose an interim suspension before a student group conduct case is resolved, he added in the statement.
The report details each chapter’s grade point average, community service hours, amount fundraised and conduct violations for the 2025-26 academic year. The OFSL releases the data – most of which is self-reported by the organizations – annually in compliance with the Fraternity and Sorority Transparency Act, or California Assembly Bill 524.
All Greek life chapters are required to meet OFSL’s Expectations of Recognition to remain in good standing with the UC, Goldstein said. The office’s requirements include submitting paperwork on time and hosting in-person hazing and sexual violence prevention workshops.
“To date, all chapters assigned conditions by the Office of Student Conduct remain in good standing, having either completed all required conditions within the established timelines or are currently completing those conditions within the required timeframes,” Goldstein said in the statement.
Sigma Nu, a fraternity, reported that it raised $100,000 – the highest figure out of any chapters. However, Brian Zirbel, the chief financial officer for Sigma Nu’s Alumni Scholarship Fund, said in an emailed statement that the number was inaccurate. Zirbel did not provide an updated figure.
The second-highest fundraiser was Delta Gamma, a sorority in the Panhellenic Council, which reported $37,556.
Jacqueline Church, Delta Gamma’s vice president of foundation and a third-year economics student, said the sorority raised the money during Anchor Splash, its annual philanthropy event to support people who are blind or visually impaired.
The sorority primarily donated the money to Blind Children’s Center, which provides free early childhood education and infant care, and Guide Dogs for the Blind, which trains and matches people with guide dogs, she added.
Of all Greek life chapters, Sigma Pi Sigma Psi, a Persian sorority, had the highest cumulative end-of-year GPA at 3.81. Sigma Pi Sigma Psi also had the highest GPA in the 2024-25 academic year.
Being surrounded by other ambitious and supportive members encourages academic excellence in the sorority, said Parya Haghparast, the Sigma Pi Sigma Psi internal vice president and a third-year economics student, in a texted statement.
“Persian culture obtains such a deep respect for education,” said Nicole Mazaheri, the president of Sigma Pi Sigma Psi and a fourth-year psychology student, in a texted statement. “Growing up, many of us in PSCO (Persian Society for Community Outreach) have learned the value of staying academically disciplined and pursuing our academic and career goals.”
Alpha Epsilon Pi had the highest cumulative GPA of 3.69 in the Interfraternity Council, and Pi Beta Phi had the highest GPA of 3.73 in the Panhellenic Council.
Lainey Barnes, the director of academics for Pi Beta Phi and a third-year biochemistry student, said the sorority connects members to alumni career workshops, tutoring and peer support.
“We really want our members to be able to have access to as many opportunities as possible,” she said. “By succeeding in school, our women are really empowered to pursue different careers.”
Chi Alpha Delta had the highest GPA of the Asian Greek Council at 3.51, and Lambda Theta Alpha Sorority had the highest GPA of the Latinx Greek Council at 3.43. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity had the highest GPA of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, a group of historically Black fraternities and sororities, at 3.47.
Delta Gamma and Gamma Phi Beta reported the most community service hours at 3,019 and 3,000 hours, respectively.
Delta Gamma’s members volunteered with children at the Blind Children’s Center, a nonprofit preschool, and gardened at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, Church said. Volunteering gives members a sense of purpose and helps them develop close bonds, she added.
“Showing the girls that there are things that you can do that both support your community and are able to fulfill you is one of the biggest impacts we’ve been trying to make,” Church said.
