Spring Sing 2023: ScatterTones to return to stage with emotional rendition of ‘ceilings’

The ScatterTones are putting hearts on the bassline. The a cappella group is warming up to take the Spring Sing stage for the first time since 2020 with a rendition of Lizzy McAlpine’s “ceilings.” ScatterTones alto and third-year communication student Janie Ziemacki said she began arranging the piece before the song gained traction on TikTok because the group greatly admired McAlpine. Spring Sing 2023: Samahang Modern prepares to ‘wow’ Bruins with various dance forms

For the first time since its founding in 1986, Samahang Modern is taking the Spring Sing stage. The competitive dance team will be performing an open-style set that is a variation of its piece presented at Ultimate Brawl, another dance competition, said third-year chemical engineering student and general member Sofia Odeste. Spring Sing 2023: Dakota Dry explores electric sound in folk style for upcoming performance

Dakota Dry is retuning her folk sound for Spring Sing. Taking the Spring Sing stage for the first time, the third-year ethnomusicology student is leaving her acoustic guitar behind to launch her new single, “Minefield.” Dry said the original song, which has been continuously reworked since she started writing it in 2020, was initially a folk song with a pop-rock introduction. Spring Sing 2023: Sophia Bacino to showcase specificity in songwriting with tale of self-discovery

‘The masculine machine’: Student theater production ‘Sharty’ explores vulnerability in male spaces

UCLA alumnus Alivia Brown inspires with anthropology YouTube channel

The alumnus said she started her channel in 2020, where she posts 10-minute educational videos regarding anthropology terms, introductory topics, key figures, personal experiences and opportunities in the field. UCLA and USC students create app to connect community with local restaurants

A new app is seeking to make it easier to eat around Los Angeles. SeekEats, which was created by students from UCLA and the University of Southern California, offers a platform where students can find discounts and local restaurant owners can promote their businesses. Read more...
