Pro-Israel demonstrators rally in Bruin Plaza in mourning of Israeli hostages

Distinguished professor emeritus, renowned urban planner Donald Shoup dies at 86

Donald Shoup, a distinguished professor emeritus whose parking reform ideas inspired generations of students and urban planners, died Feb. 6. He was 86. Shoup, who taught in the urban planning department at the Luskin School of Public Affairs, researched the hidden costs of free parking in cities and spent his career advocating to remove mandatory off-street parking requirements. Trump plans to dismantle United States Agency for International Development

The Trump administration announced the dismantling of one of the world’s largest international development aid agencies. Examining the exception: UCLA chemists discover caveat to century-old rule

A once well-established chemistry law now has an asterisk attached after a challenge from UCLA researchers. Neil Garg, a distinguished professor in the chemistry and biochemistry department, said molecules known as anti-Bredt olefins – which violate Bredt’s rule, a rule that has stood for a hundred years – cannot have double bonds in specific positions under certain conditions.
