UCLA’s new creative writing minor will open applications this fall. The minor will require students to take two courses in a core genre – either short story or poetry – after completing two lower-division English courses, according to the 2023-2024 course catalog. Read more...

Amy Lohmann, a continuing lecturer at the UCLA School of Nursing, died Aug. 14 from breast cancer. She was 46 years old. Lohmann joined the school in 2012 after receiving her master’s degree in nursing from UCLA in 2005. Read more...

The Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service, also called the Voyager Scholarship, was founded by former President Barack Obama’s family and Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky to support third-year college students who demonstrate exceptional intellectual curiosity and commitment toward careers in public service, according to the scholarship’s website. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists began the strike July 14 following an unsatisfactory negotiation with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on its latest contract, according to the TV/Theatrical/Streaming strike order.
