Students paint clothing bins, aim to create accessible donation options

Colorful clothing donation bins will be available throughout campus beginning next week. Good Clothes Good People, a nonprofit organization that gives donations back to local communities, and the Bruin Visual Arts Club, which provides resources for UCLA arts students, painted clothing donation bins at Royce Quad on Monday as part of a project to encourage more individuals to donate clothes. Panel discusses importance of diversity in community of scientists

A panel of environmental science faculty and students said they think getting individuals from diverse backgrounds involved in science will result in more effective research. The Center for Diverse Leadership in Science held its inaugural event Thursday at the Mathematical Sciences Building, where speakers presented their research on various environmental topics and talked about the importance of increasing the diversity of scientists. Students address BruinAlert, police sensitivity during UCPD town hall

At a town hall meeting Wednesday, students said they think university police and administration should be more transparent with students about campus emergency situations. Vandalism incident sparks responses from Jewish student leaders

The president of UCLA’s undergraduate student government rededicated a new mezuzah outside of her office Thursday after her previous mezuzah was vandalized over winter break. Rabbi Dovid Gurevich led the rededication with a speech about the cultural significance of the mezuzah in the Jewish faith and closed the event with the installment of the new mezuzah. Read more...

Program uses travel fees to finance projects combating greenhouse gas

A UCLA program launched this month will use funding from fees levied on business-related air travel to combat greenhouse gas emissions. Campus departments are now required to pay an extra $9 for each business-related domestic round trip and $25 for each international round trip that staff members travel by air. Read more...
