Ted Lieu no longer to speak at UCLA School of Law commencement

Congressman Ted Lieu pulled out of the UCLA School of Law’s commencement Friday because of the University of California’s ongoing labor dispute. UCLA website hacked, no student information or sensitive data affected

The UCLA Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences website was affected by a hack that converted websites into cryptocurrency mining platforms, the university confirmed Wednesday. Troy Mursch, a security researcher, said in his updated blog post Monday that UCLA’s Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences website was affected by a cryptojacking campaign that targeted vulnerable Drupal websites. Fulbright-Hays awardees to attend language program in Indonesia

Jason Hibono will visit his extended family in Indonesia for the first time in 20 years using funding from a national scholarship. Student group raises awareness for environmental racism with forum

Expert panelists said at an event Tuesday that environmental degradation disproportionately affects communities of color, and that promoting racial diversity among environmental science researchers could help address the issue. Read more...

CAPS creates new programs using funds from 2016 referendum

UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services has created new programs to interact with and support students using funds from increased student fees. CAPS is using funding from the #UCLAwellness Initiative Referendum to operate the CAPS Student Advisory Board, to run the International Student Support Program and to hire a community liaison who will help students access mental health resources outside CAPS, said Nicole Green, executive director of CAPS. Royal Society of Chemistry honors UCLA professor with centenary prize

A UCLA professor recently received an award for his work in chemistry. Richard Kaner, a distinguished professor in chemistry and biochemistry, received the Royal Society of Chemistry’s 2018 Centenary Prize for his research on energy harnessing and storage, according to a university press release Monday.
