For the People slate aims to empower student groups by addressing inequity

Members of a new student-run political group said their coalition aims to use the undergraduate student government’s resources to address inequities among students on campus. For the People is running three candidates, including Kosi Ogbuli, Nidirah Stephens and Sarena Khasawneh, in this year’s Undergraduate Students Association Council election in May. Read more...

Bruin Bike Share cruises beyond Westwood area in new joint program

Students can now rent a bike and drop it off at designated locations in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. The Bruin Bike Share program expanded its services Monday to connect with Santa Monica’s Breeze Bike Share program, the Beverly Hills Bike Share program and the WeHo Pedals Bike Share program. Professor dies at 74, remembered for curiosity, linguistic advances

UCLA faculty remember Charles Goodwin for making strides in researchers’ understanding of human speech. Goodwin, a distinguished professor emeritus in the department of applied linguistics, died on March 31 due to cancer. Read more...

Student-worker union negotiates with UC, demands protections, benefits

Student workers from the University of California demanded the UC implement new anti-discrimination and harassment provisions at a union contract negotiation session Thursday. UAW Local 2865, the UC student-workers union, called for the UC to create procedures that value and protect survivors of sexual assault, as well as extend paid maternity and paternity leave from six weeks to six months.
