Lecturers’ union, UC reach agreement regarding new employee contract

The University of California and its lecturers’ union reached a formal agreement Friday to increase lecturers’ salary by about 6 percent over the next six months, among other changes, concluding contract negotiations between the two parties after seven months. Read more...

ASUCLA officials question need for new grocery store

Several Associated Students UCLA board members questioned the need for creating an on-campus student-run grocery store in a meeting Friday. The proposed grocery store, called the Student Food Co-op, would aim to provide fresh produce to students at a lower price than off-campus stores such as Trader Joe’s and Ralphs, said undergraduate student government President Heather Rosen. UCLA assistant sociology professor breaks new ground in Iranian studies

Kevan Harris thought his undergraduate sociology classes were dull, until he took a class that covered social and historical revolutions from a sociological perspective. “I thought the Russian Revolution and the French Revolution were about politics,” said Harris, an assistant professor in sociology.
