UCLA Civil Rights Office responding to hate crime in university apartments

This post was updated Feb. 20 at 9:46 p.m. The UCLA Civil Rights Office is responding to a hate crime motivated by racial bias that occurred at University Apartments North Tuesday.  Two residents reported a racial slur written in permanent marker on their whiteboard to UCLA Residential Life on Tuesday at 6:31 p.m., according to a Clery Act Timely Warning sent by UCPD Friday afternoon.  UCPD said in the warning that neither resident had filed a report with the police department about the property vandalism as of 4:18 p.m. Read more...

2 people reportedly experienced attempted sexual assault on the Hill

Warrant issued for former UCLA employee convicted of child sexual abuse

The Los Angeles County Superior Court issued a warrant Feb. 9 for a former teacher at the UCLA Krieger Early Care and Education Center after he failed to appear in court while attempting to appeal a child sexual abuse conviction. Read more...

UCPD arrests man near Kaufman Hall following anti-Muslim threats to Iranian student

UCPD arrested a man outside Kaufman Hall on Friday after he allegedly made threatening comments against Muslim people to an Iranian student. Ashley Sarooie, who asked to be referred to by her middle and last name, said she was walking on the grass outside the Student Activities Center when a man walked up to her and asked if she was Iranian. UCPD arrests person for alleged burglary in Saxon Suites

This article was updated Jan. 15 at 10:05 p.m. UCPD arrested a person for alleged burglary in Saxon Suites on Thursday evening. A student who lives in a first floor dorm in Saxon Suites saw a person reach into their open window and attempt to take a basket from their room at about 3:40 p.m., said Jeffrey Chobanian, the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau.
