Students, faculty discuss 19-1 student-faculty ratio

U.S. News & World Report listed UCLA’s student-faculty ratio at 19-1, a ratio far higher than some private universities in California. The September report found that although UCLA is in a similar range to other UC campuses, it still differs significantly in comparison to other top-ranked universities such as the University of Southern California and Stanford, which have student-faculty ratios of 9-1 and 6-1, respectively. Republican Rep. Mike Johnson elected as speaker of the House

The United States House of Representatives elected Rep. Mike Johnson as the next speaker of the House on Wednesday. Johnson – a Republican from Louisiana  – received 220 out of the 429 cast votes, winning the support of every Republican in the House, except for one who was absent. Read more...

Faculty reacts to former President Donald Trump’s federal indictments

Some political experts predict former President Donald Trump will maintain strong Republican support in the 2024 presidential election, despite several federal indictments and other challenges. After announcing his reelection campaign in November, Trump was indicted four times between March and August for his alleged participation in a conspiracy to defraud the United States in the 2020 presidential election, possession of classified documents, and business fraud in Florida, Georgia and New York. California Rep. Kevin McCarthy becomes first House speaker to be ousted

The United States House of Representatives voted to oust California Representative Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the House.  In a 216-210 vote, Florida Representative Matt Gaetz successfully brought forth a motion to vacate the position of House speaker. Read more...
