UCLA to offer new undergrad degree in computer engineering in the fall

The UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science has built a new undergraduate degree out of electrical engineering and computer science. New grad student program seeks to study sustainability in urban areas

UCLA is creating a program for graduate students to research how to sustainably use food, water and energy in urban areas. The interdisciplinary program, which UCLA will develop for the next five years with a $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation, will teach graduate students in research, education and communication how to obtain and transport food, water and energy resources for growing urban populations. UCLA professor receives award for career in electrical engineering

A UCLA professor received an award for his career achievements in electrical engineering. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ honor society is recognizing Asad Madni, a distinguished adjunct professor of electrical engineering, with the Vladimir Karapetoff Outstanding Technical Achievement Award. Research recap: Schizophrenia, sustainability and diversity center

July 6 UCLA researchers found that people in early stages of schizophrenia were able to remember details of social interactions when given context clues. A study published by the researchers from the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior found that individuals at risk of schizophrenia were able to match a person’s face to a description of a social interaction the person was in, while individuals with chronic schizophrenia could not.
