LA Metro cuts down crime on its bus, rail systems by 17% in past 5 years

Crime on the Los Angeles Metro system dropped about 17% from 2015 to 2019. Metro released crime figures for its bus and rail systems Friday. It found that in the LA system, serious crimes such as robbery and assault fell nearly 23%, while less serious crimes fell about 11%, according to a Metro press release. Read more...

Westwood-Downtown LA subway megaproject receives over $1B in funding

Over $1 billion in federal funding will finance the last section of a subway line extension to Westwood. The United States Department of Transportation granted $1.3 billion on Tuesday for Section 3 of the Purple Line extension, a subway line that will connect Westwood to Downtown Los Angeles by 2027. Wheels rolls out new electric bike model with attached helmet

Electric bike company Wheels showcased a new bike model with an integrated helmet during a North Westwood Neighborhood Council committee meeting Jan. 14. The transportation and safety committee of the NWWNC, which represents Westwood and UCLA to the Los Angeles City Council, met with Wheels representatives to discuss the new model. Read more...

Metro on road to better bus system, utilizing community input in redesign plan

Los Angeles Metro aims to update its bus network and service for the first time in decades by December. The bus system, which carries 70% of all Metro transit riders in LA, was last updated 25 years ago. Read more...

NWWNC proposes removal of dividers on nontransit benches

A local neighborhood council may call for the removal of nontransit bench dividers in Westwood Village, following a transportation and safety committee vote Jan. 14. The committee, which is a part of the North Westwood Neighborhood Council, recommended the Westwood Village Improvement Association, Westwood’s business improvement district, remove the dividers. LA Metro evaluated 4 concepts for transit link between San Fernando Valley, Westside

The Los Angeles Metro approved five teams to compete for a bid to develop a transit project connecting the San Fernando Valley with the Westside. Metro introduced the Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project in 2018 and expects to complete the first phase of the project between 2033 and 2035. Read more...

WWNC, NWWNC disagree about implementation of bike lanes on Westwood Boulevard

Westwood’s two rivaling neighborhood councils are at an impasse over whether or not bike lanes should be implemented on Westwood Boulevard. The North Westwood Neighborhood Council unanimously requested bike lanes be implemented on Westwood Boulevard and Gayley Avenue as part of the Los Angeles Metro’s First/Last Mile plan during the council’s December meeting.
