University of California Board of Regents member Richard Blum died Sunday evening at the age of 86 after a long medical history with cancer. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Blum’s wife, released a statement Monday morning announcing his death. “My heart is broken today,” Feinstein said in the statement. Read more...

Disability rights advocate Judith Heumann spoke about the need to increase the accessibility of higher education in a Zoom lecture Thursday. Heumann has been advocating for disability rights since the 1970s and has worked on legislation including Section 504, the Individuals with Education Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, according to a UCLA press release. Unions across the University of California met Tuesday to discuss their goals and how they can incorporate climate change and greener initiatives in their union. Representatives from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 3299, the California Nurses Association, United Auto Workers Local 5810, Student Researchers United – UAW, University Council – American Federation of Teachers, University Professional and Technical Employees, and UC Green New Deal Coalition held a virtual cross-union panel to discuss their respective goals as unions, what they are currently doing and what they hope to achieve in the future.
