Purple Line Extension receives federal funding, to be completed earlier than planned

The Los Angeles Metro received the federal funding needed to begin work on a new extension connecting Westwood to Century City. According to a Century City/Westwood News report, the approval of LA Metro’s request for funding reimbursement will allow the Metro to be selective in competitive bids for the boring of the metro tunnel. UCPD’s annual report shows rise in sexual assault, burglary from 2016 to 2017

The number of reported sexual assaults on or near campus increased by 38 percent between 2016 and 2017, according to an annual report released by university police. Read more...

Temporary West LA housing facility to open doors to homeless veterans

A temporary housing facility in West Los Angeles is expected to open in early 2019 and house up to 100 homeless veterans. The $5 million facility will be located on the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration campus and will provide on-site services such as 24-hour security, case managers and mental health services. Brewhouse opening in Westwood aims to revitalize nightlife, appeal to students

IFC bans alcohol over 15 percent ABV at in-house fraternity events

The Interfraternity Council voted Tuesday to ban all drinks over 15 percent alcohol by volume at in-house fraternity events. In a statement released by the council, the IFC Executive Board and Presidents’ Council also announced the passage of changes to their risk management policies during a regular council meeting.
