Westwood Neighborhood Council recap – June 13

This post was updated June 25 at 3:47 p.m. Comments by public officials Gibson Nyambura, a representative of the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, said the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners will decide at a meeting in August whether jurisdiction of the business district in Westwood Village will fall under the Westwood Neighborhood Council or the new North Westwood Neighborhood Council, or be shared between the two councils. Westwood bistro to close after 18 years, new restaurant to take its place

Two French-Canadian restaurants in Westwood will close Wednesday. Luc Alarie, founder and head chef of Soleil Westwood, announced in a Facebook post May 8 that he will be closing Soleil and its adjacent poutine bar, P’tit Soleil. Read more...

Medina’s defense attorney refutes first-degree murder charge

A defense attorney representing Alberto Medina, who allegedly murdered Andrea “Andy” DelVesco in 2015, said he had killed her. Debra Werbel, the attorney representing Medina, a former Fresno State University student accused of murdering DelVesco, a UCLA student, said while the defense concedes Medina did kill DelVesco, the murder was not premeditated and the charge of murder in the first degree is too severe.
