Neuheisel begins new chapter in crosstown rivalry

Every year as the UCLA-USC rivalry game approaches, USC senior linebacker Kaluka Maiava thinks back to his senior year in high school. Walker calm despite exciting possibilities

DeWayne Walker knows what he can control. For most of his career, Walker worked in obscurity as an assistant football coach for several universities and NFL teams. He has built a reputation as a savvy defensive coordinator in three seasons at UCLA but has never sought the spotlight. He speaks frankly to reporters and preaches work ethic to his players. Saturday at the Rose Bowl, UCLA and USC will write the 78th chapter in their football rivalry. The winner will claim the traditional Victory Bell, taken from a Southern Pacific railroad and stolen from UCLA by USC students in 1941, before it was deemed the prize for the game’s winner.
