UCLA women’s tennis coach serves as mentor on and off the court

Junior Kelly Shaffer’s mind darts to the moments after UCLA women’s tennis won the 2014 NCAA Championship whenever she thinks of coach Stella Sampras Webster. “I remember her absolute joy,” Shaffer said.”She said it was more about us than about her, she was happy for us and what we got to accomplish together.” Sampras Webster never intended to go into coaching, let alone win national championships. UCLA women’s tennis beaten but bolstered in match against No. 1 Cal

The momentum of the match was on the verge of shifting as sophomore Terri Fleming served for match point. A strong serve followed by an effective backhand slice caused Cal’s Olivia Hauger to hit an unnecessary lob shot, setting Fleming up for the easy smash and a victory on court five. Read more...
