Cultural heritage institute to fund new Persian linguistics fellowship

The UCLA department of linguistics is establishing a fellowship in Persian linguistics with a $1 million donation from a Iranian culture institute, the university announced Monday. Read more...

UCLA engineering school opens resource center for transfer students

Liberal student organization campaigns for out-of-state candidates

Students in a grassroots political organization spent three hours calling voters in Virginia to support a local Democratic candidate at a phone banking event Friday. About 12 students in Bruins Elect met in a Westwood apartment to call residents in the Virginia House of Delegates’ 68th district to garner support for Dawn Adams, a candidate in Tuesday’s election. Students report issues with on-campus ride-share pickup zone times

Some students said they have had difficulties using Uber or Lyft in campus ride-hailing zones. Uber and Lyft users have had to go to designated zones on campus to request rides since the beginning of fall quarter. Read more...

ASUCLA to renovate first floor of Ackerman Union, add more seating

Small sections of Ackerman Union’s first-floor dining room will be closed off while they undergo renovations over the next few months. Student Union Director Roy Champawat said Associated Students UCLA is remodeling the dining area’s flooring and seating and expects the renovations to be completed by early winter quarter.
