A UCLA study published July 31 found that one in five California residents over the age of 65 have incomes above the federal poverty line, but still cannot afford a “decent standard of living.” The study conducted by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research found about 772,000 older adults are ineligible for aid programs, though they may not be able to afford basic housing, health care and food.
