The Federal Bureau of Investigation opened a probe Thursday into a violent threat made against Black community members at UCLA which UCPD deemed non-credible. The threat – which was also sent to people at the University of Southern California – referenced the stabbing of Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian woman who was allegedly murdered in August by a Black man, according to Morning, Trojan. A UCLA football player was arrested Friday for an alleged felony incident. Pierce Clarkson, a redshirt sophomore and UCLA’s backup quarterback, was arrested Sept. 5 by LAPD’s Southwest Division, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate locator. Read more...

Brian Royal-Rubin, 37, was charged Tuesday with felony burglary, the violation of civil rights, the possession of a weapon at a university and a hate crime enhancement Jeffrey Chobanian, the acting captain of the UCPD administrative and operations bureau, said in an emailed statement. A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly using false identities to steal over $200,000 worth of rare Chinese manuscripts from the UCLA Library system. Jeffrey Ying, a resident of Fremont, California, allegedly stole manuscripts from the UCLA East Asian Library and UCLA Library Special Collections and replaced them with false copies multiple times since October 2024, according to an affidavit filed with a criminal complaint.
