UCLA is projected to generate a $220 million deficit for the 2025-26 fiscal year, its interim chief financial officer announced in a Thursday email. The estimate comes more than a month after Stephen Agostini, the university’s former CFO, alleged to the Daily Bruin that financial mismanagement – both from current and past administrators – contributed to an annual projected deficit of $425 million. UCLA’s Honorific Naming Committee unanimously recommended the removal of Cesár E. Chávez’s name from the department of Chicana/o and Central American Studies on Friday, following a Wednesday New York Times investigation which revealed his alleged sex abuse. The committee – which received the request from the department Wednesday – sent its recommendation to Chancellor Julio Frenk and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Darnell Hunt, according to a Friday letter obtained by the Daily Bruin.
