UCLA to head research center in national manufacturing network
President Barack Obama announced Monday that UCLA will house a new manufacturing research center to increase manufacturing efficiency in the U.S. The UCLA center will be part of a national network of manufacturing institutes under the Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute, with locations in Texas, New York, Washington and North Carolina, according to a White House press release. Students from HBCUs conduct research through UCLA summer program
Students from historically black colleges and universities are gaining research experience through a University of California summer research program. The UC Office of the President launched the UC-Historically Black Colleges and Universities, which funds research projects that are open to undergraduate and master’s degree students from HBCUs, said Anne Dela Cruz, diversity, inclusion and admissions director of UCLA graduate division.
