GSA forum to present charges against President Milan Chatterjee

The graduate student government will present charges against its president at a meeting Wednesday evening. If the charges come to a vote and two-thirds of all seated delegates vote to impeach, the UCLA Graduate Students Association President Milan Chatterjee will be removed from office. Read more...

Lecturers union claims UCLA withheld funds for academic events

Members of the UCLA lecturers union allege UCLA’s Academic Personnel Office is unfairly withholding funds intended to help lecturers attend academic events. Mia McIver, president of the UCLA chapter of the University Council-American Federation of Teachers, said the funds have not yet been distributed because the office has not convened the committee that distributes the funds. UCLA alum’s nonprofit uses new technology for Niger Delta cleanup

A nonprofit organization founded by a UCLA alumnus is working to clean up a massive oil spill in the Niger Delta using recently developed technology. A United Nations Environment Programme report published in 2011 revealed individuals living in the Niger Delta were drinking water contaminated with quantities of benzene, a carcinogen, that were up to 900 times what was considered safe. Petition calls for dismissal of professor accused of sexual assault

A group of graduate students started a petition that demands the University of California dismiss a UCLA history professor accused of sexually assaulting two students. Preston McBride, president of the History Graduate Students Association, said graduate students started the petition after UCLA officials allowed history professor Gabriel Piterberg to return to teach on campus.
