USAC calculator loan program aims to ease financial concerns

An undergraduate student government office is creating a calculator loan program that will launch later this week. Ruhi Patil, USAC Financial Support commissioner, organized the initiative, which aims to lend calculators to students who cannot afford to buy their own. Read more...

USAC Election Board announces spring campaign calendar

The undergraduate student government election board explained spring election rules and announced the campaign calendar during a candidate orientation session Friday. Students can buy festival clothing and attend fashion events at a pop-up store in Westwood Village for about the next two weeks. Boohoo, an online clothing retailer based in the United Kingdom, opened a temporary location on Westwood Boulevard on Saturday in anticipation of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Dance Marathon funds AIDS treatment, support

UCLA students have teamed together with the Pediatric Aids Coalition to acknowledge the struggles of children suffering from AIDS. The Pediatric AIDS Coalition raised over $446,000 through their annual Dance Marathon this weekend, which will will help fund support and treatment services aimed at women and children. Read more...

Academic student workers and graduate student researchers represented by the United Auto Workers union recently ended a nearly six-week strike in which they called for better working conditions and equitable wages. The contract stipulates pay increases for all workers – for some, pay increases of up to 80% – as well as anti-harassment policies and increased childcare support. However, the negotiations have struck controversy among some UAW members dissatisfied with the results of the contract. What are your thoughts on this issue? Only the voices of the bargaining team were heard during the negotiation process – the contract is not all-encompassing of student workers and should not have been ratified. The mediation resulted in a realistic contract for academic workers at this time. The agreed-upon result generally covered what the strikers were asking for. I have feelings about this that are not described in the options above. The contract is neither good nor bad and/or this issue does not directly affect me as a student.
