UCPD arrests individual suspected of scooter theft, sexual battery against a minor

The UCLA Police Department arrested a person Thursday suspected of scooter theft and sexual battery against a minor. According to a statement posted on the social media platform X, UCPD said it recovered two scooters and brass knuckles after the arrest around 2:45 a.m., but it is still investigating whether the suspect is linked to three other scooter thefts. UCLA faculty discuss outcome, potential consequences of presidential election

Olympian Yusra Mardini shares refugee journey at UCLA screening of ‘The Swimmers’

Around 60 students attended a screening of “The Swimmers” with the movie’s subject and Olympian Yusra Mardini on Nov. 15. UCLA’s Southwest Asian/North African Health Alliance, Students Organize for Syria and the Syrian American Medical Society hosted the event, which included the opportunity to ask Mardini questions, in Moore Hall. Heart of the Brain raises $1.5 million for brain cancer awareness in annual walk

UCLA physicians, donors and patients gathered in Dickinson Court on Nov. 3 for an annual brain cancer awareness and fundraising walk. Heart of the Brain – a brain cancer advocacy and fundraising organization – hosted the walk, raising $1.5 million this year for research and clinical trials, according to their website. Read more...

California partners with hardware firm for AI education in community colleges

California is collaborating with an artificial intelligence company to further integrate AI into the lives of community college students, educators and workers. Gov. Gavin Newsom and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang signed an initiative this August to form a partnership between the California government and NVIDIA, an AI hardware supplier. Read more...
