Empowering women across the globe

At a talk on Thursday night, Molly Melching spoke about her experience working with women in Senegal. Melching, the founder and director of the Tostan Community Empowerment Program, described the lives of many women in Senegal: After working all day, exhausted from carrying heavy bowls on their heads, and finding firewood to cook meals for their families, some Senegalese end their days with an additional two to three hours of education in a classroom. J-Board rules in favor of Park

This week, the pending undergraduate student government Judicial Board case was decided in favor of the respondent, External Vice President Tina Park. L.A. to divest $27 million from Sudan

In protest against the continuing violence in Darfur, Los Angeles will withdraw $27 million from pension funds with companies that deal with the Sudanese government. “The city of Los Angeles is adding its voice to the international outcry over the genocide in Darfur,” said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in a statement after announcing the city’s intention to divest.
