Community members address national increase in hate crimes

UCLA community members discussed an FBI report that found that hate crimes in the United States increased by nearly 12% between 2020 and 2021. Hate crimes are defined as criminal incidents against an individual where the offender is partially or totally motivated by racial, ethnic, gender, disability, sexual orientation or other biases unique to the victim. UCLA-sponsored Grieving Sun Mural captures community expressions of grief

A UCLA-sponsored artist unveiled the Grieving Sun Mural, a community artwork project aimed at shedding light on the power of collective grief, on Wednesday. The mural, which was created by UCLA arts faculty and members of the wider Los Angeles community, was unveiled outside Perloff Hall alongside a soundscape of music, bird calls and recordings of people telling their stories of grief playing from nearby temporarily installed speakers.
