Students devise unique coding projects at UCLA’s Hack on the Hill

Anthony Nikodym waved a pen in front of a webcam Sunday morning as he worked with two other students to create an interactive pictionary game. Nikodym, a first-year computer science and engineering student, spent 12 hours working with his team during Hack on the Hill, a hackathon for beginners hosted by the UCLA Association for Computing Machinery. Conference examines role of music in treating neurological disorders

Alex Khalil began his neuroscience lecture by striking a xylophone key with a mallet. Khalil, a professor of neurocomputational ethnomusicology at UC San Diego, and other experts from across the U.S., spoke to an audience of doctors and psychologists at the UCLA Conference on Art, Neuroscience and Psychiatry this weekend. Hispanic, Latinx students represented in new graduate student group

Students from different backgrounds came together to celebrate the launching of a new Hispanic and Latinx graduate student group Thursday night. The Graduate Students Association, Hispanic/Latinx Graduate Students Association and the Dashew Center for International Students and Scholars hosted a launching party called the “UCLA After Hours” at the W Los Angeles hotel in Westwood. Alumnus memorializes UCLA alumni who died in action during WWII

A UCLA alumnus’ research is bringing attention to the hundreds of UCLA alumni and previous students who died fighting in World War II. Bill Beigel, a World War II historian and UCLA alumnus, shared his ongoing research of UCLA veterans killed in action during World War II at the James West Alumni Center on Thursday. Read more...

Announcements Student leaders proposed creating a new neighborhood council in Westwood to advise the Los Angeles City Council on students’ concerns regarding Westwood. Westwood Forward, a coalition comprising UCLA undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, Westwood homeowners and business owners, said their proposed neighborhood council will push for more affordable housing and make Westwood more welcoming for new businesses.
