SJR enables student funding committee CAC to better allocate resources
One of the largest student funding bodies on campus has seen a significant improvement in fund allocations after budget increases. The Community Activities Committee allocated more than $550,000 to student groups in this year’s regular funding cycle, which is about 44 percent more than last year. Read more...

Although UCLA is ranked fifth on College Choice’s Best LGBT Friendly Colleges and Universities this year and is home to the Williams Institute, an LGBTQ research institute, several students said they think UCLA needs more research on transgender health care. Student activism at UCLA sees increases, continued growth likely
Several professors and students said they think student activism has increased after the 2016 presidential election, but there is still room for improvement. This year, students have participated in large protests off campus such as the Los Angeles Women’s March or the March for Science Los Angeles, and on campus they have protested against President Donald Trump’s election and the Dakota Access pipeline. Student group for formerly incarcerated sees first graduating class
As a formerly incarcerated student, Armando Tellez’s path to higher education was far from traditional. “I got shot when I was 21. That was the same year I enrolled in college,” said Tellez, who will be graduating with other formerly incarcerated students this week as part of the Underground Scholars Initiative. Read more...
