Students affected by Trump’s immigration ban share concerns for future

About 150 UCLA students have been directly affected by President Donald Trump’s travel ban on citizens and refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries. UCLA Early Care and Education’s executive director to resign

The executive director of the UCLA Early Care and Education program will step down from her position in March, university officials announced in late January. Jayanti Tambe will leave the center March 20 to pursue a doctoral degree in transformative social change, according to a letter sent by university officials to faculty and student parents. UCLA plans low-cost housing for disadvantaged students

UCLA plans to open new low-cost housing apartments next year for underserved students. The housing project will be open to all students, but UCLA will reserve spaces for students from various groups under the Bruin Resource Center, including undocumented students, veterans and former foster youth, said Monroe Gorden Jr., interim vice chancellor of student affairs, in an interview with the Daily Bruin editorial board. USAC, Dashew Center discuss creation of international student committee

Assistant professor works with Pueblo tribes to preserve their languages

Erin Debenport works with indigenous tribes in the Rio Grande Valley to help preserve their languages. But she has to keep her work a secret. Debenport, an assistant professor of linguistic and sociocultural anthropology who joined the UCLA faculty in fall 2016, said the tribes she works with are losing their languages because young people are not learning their native language.
